On Earth as it is in Heaven

Earlier in the year, anticipating the Tammuz fast, I felt that I needed to teach about the spirituality of the holy Temple, the abode of divine glory in Jewish worship. I get many questions about the Temple and sacrifices. There are numerous misconceptions and unusual ideas related to the temple that I hear in Torah discussions. They often come from an honest lack of knowledge about the Temple. The lessons Jews draw from temple worship are pretty profound, and in Judaism, the foundation of how we worship, even today, is based on the ancient temple service. So, I embarked on a topic entitled “On Earth as it is in Heaven,” borrowing words from a famous prayer intentionally. They beautifully express an idea encapsulated in Jerusalem Temple worship, that we worship God on earth in ways similar to how he is worshipped in heaven.

If this topic intrigues you, here are a couple of videos (recorded live and uncut) from our “study hour” at the synagogue.

You can find the entire series ( 8 videos) on Tikvat David YouTube channel, or you can join our TD LIVE community, become a “synagogue friend” by donating, to gain access to hours and hours of study sessions held at our synagogue, all sorted and neatly assembled into topics.
